FAQs

Adding an Article or Post to the Cattery Index Magazine

1. I cannot find the application to submit posts to the magazine. Can you help?

Register for your free account via this link.

Log in via this link.

After you register, you will get an email to confirm your registration. Simply click the link in the email to verify your email address.

Then you can log into the site and write a post. Make sure you select the category for your breed. Before going live, your post goes to moderation and will be approved within 24 hours. If you still don’t see your post/listing after 24 hours, use the contact page to let me know.

The usual format for listing a cattery at Cattery Index is different than in a traditional website link directory. Rather than seeing a long list of cattery names or cattery banners to click on, you will instead see many posts by different catteries under the same breed category. The most recent posts are always at the top of the page. This keeps the site fresh, accurate and up to date by the owners of the catteries themselves.

If you would prefer a listing in our Cat Breeder Directory rather than posting live news and updates about your site on ours, you can certainly still do that! Or do both :)

2. I am logged in but I cannot make a new article/post. Why not?

Due to accounts being created for obvious spam purposes, new members to the Cattery Index Magazine blog are now “subscribers” only. If you’d like to contribute to the site and add your cattery or cat-related news (for free), please use the contact form and let me know the username or email you used to sign up. I’ll edit your account to “contributor”.

3. I cannot see my post yet, how long does it take to get my post approved?

Within 24 hours, if approved. While Cattery Index does NOT use the nofollow attribute in links, we do not and will not approve any content (including comments) that is not relevant to the site. If you are looking to advertise your non-cat related site or product, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

Cattery Index thinks sharing the link love is fair and honest “compensation” to those that actually take the time to read posts and articles and contribute to them genuinely with comments that enhance the post.

4. I do not see my breed listed on your website or in the cat breeder directory. Why not?

Your breed may not yet be recognized by a major cat registry such as CFA, CCA, TICA, FiFe, etc. Cattery Index only helps promote registered cats and reputable cat breeders. If your breed IS approved by a recognized registry and is not listed here on this site, please submit a category suggestion via the contact form. Be sure to provide a link to the cat registry website which indicates your breed is recognized by that registry.

Another reason why you may not see your recognized breed represented here is that no one has posted in that category yet. You could be the first one to post!

5. Why was the photo in my post altered or removed?

If your photo was larger than 400×400 pixels, it may have been resized or removed.
Please read our tutorials section on how to resize your photos. If you are still having difficulty, please contact me via the contact form.

Adding Your Site to the Cat Breeder Directory

1. I logged in but it shows me the page to log in/register again.

You ARE already logged in. If you look to the left of the page in the menu you will see your login name and a link to your account. Just click the “Home” link (top left corner of the site) and then browse to the category you want to place your listing in. Once you submit your listing it will be associated with your account and you can come back to make changes as needed at a later date.

2. I am trying to add my site for free but I keep getting an error about the reciprocal link. What am I doing wrong?

A reciprocal link means that you must give a link back to the site you are looking to link from. If the link back to Cattery Index is not on the exact page (URL) that you tell the form to look at, it cannot “see” that link. Until the link back to Cattery Index is in place, you will not be able to add your site.

Also note that if you put up a graphical banner with the link on it, the program cannot “see” the link. The program looks specifically for the textual link only. You may add a banner as well if you like, but the textual link is the one that must be there first.

If you do not want to place a link back to the cat breeder directory, you will need to select the paid option.

3. In my Cattery Index directory listing, the thumbshot of my website is missing, outdated or wrong, how do I change this?

The “screenshot” or thumbshot of the front page of your website is a service provided by a 3rd party that I have no control of whatsoever. Thumbshots.com provides a thumbshot (screenshot) of the front page of your website to many, many services online across the world. This thumbshot is generated when your site is visited by their program (like a google robot).

To update your Thumbshot, you need to create a free account at Thumbshots.com, log in, and go to Products >Thumbshots Images > Update Thumbshots (login required). This creates a request to have your site revisited by a thumbshots.com robot. When that happens, your site Thumbshot is updated. For more information please read their FAQs.
