The Siamese Cat Breed

January 1, 2009 by Shannon · Leave a Comment

Siamese cats originated from Thailand in the 1800s – though it was then called “Siam”. One of the oldest cat breeds, the Siamese breed was first introduced in England, sent as a gift from an Ambassador to Siam. Soon after, siamese cats were in many English cat shows. By the 20th century, you also saw this lovely breed in North America. This is of course where the breed name came from.

siamese-catThis exotic breed was best known for its “points”, the distince color points at face, ears, tail and lower legs. Siamese cats are graceful, long and lean, with a very angular, sharp face. The best known quality of this breed is their very distinct voice and a eagerness to use it, frequently! Siamese cat owners know that this breed is very chatty.

Like most cats, the siamese is playful, curious, affectionate and quite intelligent. Very people friendly, this breed is quite happy with small children and other pets. Being so outgoing, the Siamese is often the center of attention – happily chatting away about everything and to anyone in their unique voice.

Caring For Your New Siamese cat

So you’ve just gotten home from visiting a Siamese cat breeder and now have a new addition to your family? Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of a highly intelligent breed of cats – the Siamese cat. Siamese cats are one of the most loving cats in the world, even if it looks anything but friendly to the eyes of non-cat lovers. However, cat lovers will tell you that it is impossible not to fall head over heels with this expressive and charming breed of cats. Here are some tips on how to show your new Siamese cat some love after bringing it home.

Firstly, you should ensure proper nutrition is given to your beloved Siamese cat. These cats are not averse to eating veggies but meat is an essential ingredient in their daily diet. Feed your Siamese cat proper food such as dry kibble according to their age, weight and general needs and you will have a healthy, happy kitty in your hands. Cheap pet food is a big no-no, but table scraps and leftover meat or fish is deemed okay to be given as an occasional treat.

When it comes to kitty litter, it is recommended to get scoopable non-clay litter. Clay litter has sodium bentonite a natural clay ingredient that expands into a hard mass when it comes into contact with moisture. Cats will ingest fine sodium bentonite particles when they dig in the clay litter. The particles expand in the lungs and cause asthma and other lung problems. Good litters to choose from include newspaper, corn or wheat based litters.

Lastly, it does not hurt to show plenty of love and affection to your Siamese cat. Here’s to a lasting relationship with your feline friend!

Manx Hugs and Purrs

August 17, 2008 by AnaManx · Leave a Comment

A warm Manx Hug and lots of Purrs to all from AnaManxs Cattery.   This year has brought some changes for us here at AnaManx’s, we are now living in the city and miss seeing our ducks and wildlife daily.  The drive (45 minutes – 1 an hour a day) was a bit much –  not to mention the price of gas.  Our Bella had two beautiful kittens that have found wonderful homes on May Day.  :trance:   That was quite a scary event, she ended up having to have a “C” section and I was advised to have her spayed since she might have the same problems in the future.

My charming Buster AKA CH Animere Carlyn has gone to live with my son and his new family in TN.  He also will no longer be siring kittens, and now is just the KING of the house!  He may show as a premier once he settled down a bit.  He has not taking as well as I had hoped to showing as a whole male.  Even if a cat has all the beauty and charm and genetic to be a show Buster, you never known how they will react to it; we as breeders can not guarantee show ability!   But, now loving personality “The Manx” have it all!

I believe my CH Mynney is expecting and possibly also Anna Bree!  I will keep you posted.
